Orangutans are large apes that live in southeast Asia (on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra). These apes mostly live in trees and swing from branch to branch using their arms.
The word orangutan means "man of the forest" in the Malay language. As its habitats are being usurped by man, the orangutan's population is decreasing and it is in grave danger of extinction.
This is one of my favorite hand puppets. This large, gentle ape will provide hours of entertainment either sitting and gazing into your eyes, or swinging by his dexterous hands from anything he can get ahold of. The best way to move his mouth is by pulling down on the inside of the lower jaw. This hand puppet by Folkmanis is the best orangutan puppet I've found!
